I began this track based on lyrics my uncle Norm gave me back in 2015. This song in its early stages was going to be the centrepiece of an EP called Remember, but I wasn't happy with what I had at the time so the Remember EP wound up being released without the song. Eventually, I finished it to my satisfaction, and though it's far different than what Norm had initially suggested, it wouldn't exist without his concept.
lyrics
How could we see any other way? We both knew it would be today
I close my eyes in a fit of shame, but you won't let me talk
So I go my way
Let's have a moment of silence, a chance for us to breathe
Our tribute for reasons you're not in front of me
I could say I remember the first gifts that we shared
We stayed up making music, telling secrets 'till we're scared
And all I ask is once a year, on the eleventh day
Think back to all the memories we made
Throw out our never future days, a white dress carried in the waves
We'll douse the fire just to fan the flames
You know what sets me off - here we go again
Let's have a moment of silence, a chance for us to breathe
Our tribute to reasons that you're not what I see
I could say I remember the first gifts that we shared
We stayed up making music, telling secrets 'till we're scared
And all I ask is once a year, on the eleventh day
Think back to all the memories we made
We made sure to keep our own demons inside
The ones we can't hide from
Making the same mistakes, falling for our own embrace
I could say I remember the first gifts that we shared
We stayed up making music, telling secrets 'till we're scared
And all I ask is once a year, on the eleventh day
Think back to all the memories we made
Think back to all the memories we made
